Carolyn gave an outstanding presentation at the
Assembly of State Conferences (ASC) business
meeting, reporting on our March 10, 2018 regional
AAUP event: “Values and the University: Academic
Freedom and Shared Governance.” She
expressed our thanks for the generous
Conference Development Grant from the ASC. The
presentation was a hit! Compliments galore, and
widespread interest in how we do our event!
There is growing recognition, at the national level,
that good work is going on with our AAUP Chapter
and Southeastern Oklahoma State University!
William ran for re-election as the Secretary of the Assembly of
State Conferences (ASC). There were two other candidates on
the ballot: Leah Akins from New York, and Rory Kraft from
Pennsylvania. On the first ballot, no candidate received a
majority of the votes. On the second ballot, Leah Akins
received a majority and William was two votes short.
Congratulations to Leah! Working with my ASC colleagues
(great people) as secretary was an invaluable experience!
Duke professor and historian Nancy MacLean, author of
Democracy in Chains: The Deep History of the Radical Right’s
Stealth Plan for America, gave the plenary luncheon
presentation at the AAUP Annual Conference on Friday.
Carolyn and William had the opportunity to share a few drinks
and an amazing discussion with Dr. MacLean!
